What is Classes of Supply?

Classes I–X of Military Supply

The U.S. military organizes materiel into ten classes of supply: I subsistence (food/water), II clothing and individual equipment, III petroleum/oils/lubricants, IV construction materials, V ammunition, VI personal-demand items, VII major end items, VIII medical, IX repair parts, and X non-military (e.g., agricultural) materiel. The framework makes demand, storage, and reporting consistent across a theater.

Almost every logistics conversation references these classes; Class III (fuel) and Class IX (repair parts) dominate sustainment cost and readiness.

In FORGEFORGE positions and tracks inventory by class of supply so the right Class IX part is forward when a work order needs it.
